They came out on top 35-28 with both teams scoring 4 tries for what was a ninth Canes win in the last 10 outings.The Hurricanes had finished the regular season 5 points shy of the Crusaders although their 12 wins was the highest number of any side and their away record comprised of 6 wins, 1 defeat and 1 draw. Although they were well beaten on their first visit to Christchurch other NZ derby matches away from home saw the Canes draw 23-23 with the Chiefs in Hamilton, they edged out the Highlanders 31-28 in Dunedin and beat the Blues 22-12 in Auckland.
