PBA ALL STARS: Skills Challenge | Smart All-Star vs Luzon All-Star
A stripped-down version of the national team tries to pull out a win
when it takes on Team Luzon in the second leg of the PBA All Stars
series at Batangas City Sports Center on Friday.
Game time is at 7 p.m., following the side events that include the
Obstacle Challenge, the 3-point shootout and the slam-dunk contest,
which begin at about 4 p.m.
Jayson Castro of TNT, Japeth Aguilar (Barangay Ginebra), Calvin
Abueva (Alaska) and Matthew Wright (Phoenix) will move from the Gilas
Pilipinas side that lost to Team Mindanao on Wednesday and star this
time for the Luzon selection coached by Leo Austria.
Raymond Almazan of Rain Or Shine, Stanley Pringle (GlobalPort); LA
Tenorio (Ginebra); Paul Lee (Magnolia); and Alex Cabagnot, Arwind Santos
and Marcio Lassiter of San Miguel Beer make up the rest of the squad.
The Gilas side, known as the Smart PBA All Stars and coached by Yeng
Guiao, still boasts a formidable core that consists of Gabe Norwood
(Rain Or Shine), Kiefer Ravena (NLEX), Terrence Romeo (TNT), and 4-time
league MVP June Mar Fajardo (San Miguel), although the roster could be
thinner than expected.
According to a report
by PhilStar.com's Denison Rey A. Dalupang, Alaska forward Carl Bryan
Cruz won't be suiting up for Smart because of knee concerns. Troy
Rosario and RR Pogoy of TNT are skipping the game, too, as they prepare
for the FIBA 3x3 World Cup next month.
On the Luzon side, Magnolia center Ian Sangalang will reportedly miss the game because of a wrist injury).
Fajardo, Castro and the loaded Smart team lost in convincing fashion
in Digos City, Davao del Sur 144-130 behind the hot shooting of Team
Mindanao's guards.
